Minister Jane Stewart and Minister Pat Atkinson
Insulting Public Responsibility

By Mario deSantis, February 12, 2000

This morning, while having breakfast and watching TV, I overheard the comment made by federal Minister of Human Resources Jane Stewart mentioning that no matter the administrative problems affecting the $1 billion jobs program(1), all the money "...is in your communities ..." I found this comment disastrous and again my contempt for today's politicians became more acute. This feeling of disgust for our political leadership comes when I just wrote the article "Don't trust statistics, don't trust Honourable MacKinnon, trust yourself(2)."

As we have seen in our previous articles, we have politicians who if are not pathological liars are deceptive to say the least. Jane Stewart's statement that money disbursed by the Human Resources is in our communities reminds me of the statement made by Minister of Health Pat Atkinson "no one has run with the money" at the time she was defending the $50 Million overrun for the closure of the Plains Health Centre in Regina(3).

Whenever you deal with pathological liars or devious people you cannot ever level your communication with them. As a consequence, education is the ultimate resource for levelling our understanding, and I strongly suggest that both Honourable Stewart and Honourable Atkinson refer to the previous article "Making money is not creating wealth Mr. Premier Romanow(4)." I want to make clear to these honourable ministers that it is their responsibility to disburse public funds in accordance to their mandates and that their statements that money is in your communities or that no one has run with the money should not ever be tolerated by the public they are supposed to represent. Our politicians are becoming more arrogant and irresponsible and it is time that their insulting behaviour be publicized and stopped, here in Saskatchewan and everywhere else.
