The fall of the Soviet Union caused the fall of communism and the
triumph of western democracies. However, our world conflicts didn't
terminate with the fall of communism and political scientist Samuel
Huntington contended that the next war would be a clash of
civilizations.
In
1993 professor Huntington was writing
"Western civilization is both Western and modern.
Non-Western civilizations have attempted to become modern
without becoming Western.... Their economic and military
strength relative to the West will increase... This will require
the West to maintain the economic and military power necessary
to protect its interests in relation to these civilizations."
At
the same time political scientist Francis Fukuyama objected to
Huntington's prediction of the future clash of civilizations and
predicted instead that the process of modernization had only one
viable choice, that is the universality of market oriented
economics: the Free Market. By the way, professor Fukuyama was one
of the signers of the letter dated January 26, 1998, directed to
president William Clinton from the Project of the New American
Century, asking for the quick removal of Saddam Hussein.
We must understand that Huntington and Fukuyama are supposed to
be the political luminaries of the doctrine of geo-politics and
while they have publicly disagreed on their political predictions,
the reality is that these predictions have converged in dividing our
world. The Free Market is dividing people and countries between rich
and poor, and religion is dividing western people from Islamic
people.
The convergence of the division of the Free Market and of the
division of religions is today concentrated in the Middle East and
Iraq. In fact, America has decided that Iraq is for sale to the
highest foreign bidder at the expense of Iraqi citizens.
We also learn that evangelical Christian Lt. General William
Boykin is preaching the war against terrorism in these terms
"The enemy is a spiritual enemy. He's called the
principality of darkness. The enemy is a guy called Satan...
They're after us because we're a Christian nation."
On the other hand, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad told
a summit of Islamic leaders
"The Europeans killed 6 million Jews out of 12 million,
but today the Jews rule the world by proxy...They get others to
fight and die for them... 1.3 billion Muslims cannot be defeated
by a few million Jews."
There is too much division in the Free Market, and in a world of
conflicts we don't need academicians who become theoretical
doctrinaires, and we don't need generals and politicians who become
the voices of different gods.
