"That's some bad pilot"--President Bush, 15 minutes
after American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade
Center on September 11, 2001 at 8:45 am
Yesterday, there has been a lot of commotion on the
appropriateness for President George Bush to use the images of the
9/11 tragedy for his re-election commercials. I don’t take sides on
Bush’s righteousness in exploiting a human tragedy for his
privatised interests. However, I want to point out that President
Bush has been doing the utmost to keep the truth of the 9/11 tragedy
out of public knowledge, and specifically he has refused to testify
in open session before the 9/11 commission.
Mindy Kleinberg has lost her husband in the 9/11 tragedy and
testifying before the 9/11 commission she questions if the 9/11
tragedy was either luck or no fault government:
"Is it luck that aberrant stock trades were not monitored?
Is it luck when 15 visas are awarded based on incomplete forms?
Is it luck when Airline Security screenings allow hijackers to
board planes with box cutters and pepper spray? Is it luck when
Emergency FAA and NORAD protocols are not followed? Is it luck
when a national emergency is not reported to top government
officials on a timely basis? To me luck is something that
happens once. When you have this repeated pattern of broken
protocols, broken laws, broken communication, one cannot still
call it luck. If at some point we don't look to hold the
individuals accountable for not doing their jobs properly then
how can we ever expect for terrorists not to get lucky again?"
Again, I am not taking side on Bush’s appropriateness to use the
9/11 tragedy for his re-electioneering commercials but I am
concerned that terrorists could get lucky again with continued no
fault government.
