Bush's Language of War Is Incompatible with Democracy:
There is no such a thing as War on Terror
By Mario deSantis, September 13, 2005
“Language matters, because it can determine how we think
and act.”-- George Lakoff and Evan Frisch[1]
“The only transcendence of our individual loneliness that
we can experience arises through the consensual reality [language]
that we create with others, that is, through love.”--Humberto
Maturana[1b]
I am trying again to write political and economic stories after
over a year and half hiatus, and I am very happy that Timothy Shire,
editor of Ensign, will be integrating these stories with his
creative graphics. With the fifth anniversary of the 9-11 attacks I
am pondering again about the behavior of war monger president Bush.
Last Monday night in his televised speech he stated that “It is a
struggle for civilization... The safety of America depends on the
outcome of the battle in the streets of Baghdad... and we must put
aside our differences, and work together to meet the test that
history has given us.”[2] Bush is a causal hypocrite, I mean not
a casual hypocrite, I mean Bush is a causal hypocrite, that is a
'determined hypocrite' (Orwellian double thinker) who can hold two
contradictory beliefs simultaneously and accept them[2b].
There is no such a thing as a clash of civilizations yet[3] but
in the mind of the dogmatic neo-uber-alles[4]. And how can anyone
visualize that the safety of America depends on the outcome of the
battle in the streets of Baghdad when this world is struck all over
by so much injustice, poverty, religious and economics demagogy, and
chronic wars? How can anyone believe that Bush wants to put aside
our differences and work together while his wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan are causing so many deaths and material destruction
along with the unintended consequence to bolster the political
ambitions of Bush's axis of evil Iran and with the unintended
consequence to have a narco Afghanistan and a resurgent Taliban?[5]
President Bush and his neo-uber-alles are all causal hypocrites
(Orwellian double thinkers) and they must not get away with the
pursuing of their private business interest to wage wars under the
guise of exporting democracy! Democracy is not something to be
exported[6]; democracy is nothing else but the progressive
enhancement of our common good, that is our overall welfare. And the
pursuing of democracy or the pursuing of the common good are
incompatible with waging wars, and that is why we need to use our
common language so that we can learn together to live in peace.
In the article 'Five Years After 9/11: Drop the War Metaphor',
authors George Lakoff and Evan Frisch explain that 'terror' is an
emotional state, and that you cannot wage a war on terror. However,
they emphasize the obvious, that is, we can police crimes. And let
me reinforce this understanding by re-writing:
We cannot distinguish terrorists from criminals, and
therefore in order to fight terrorism we have to fight any crime
as understood by the civilized world.[7]
